Voltron is one of those series a lot of 80’s and 90’s baby-otaku will remember. Featuring parts of robots that assembled into one giant-robot, Voltron. The series first premiered in 1984 running until 1985. The anime series was produced by World Events Production and Toei Animation as a collaboration with the idea of creating a toyline and merchandise empire.
The first season was edited and translated from the anime “Beast King GoLion.” While the second season was adapted from an entirely different anime titled “Armored Fleet Dairugger XV” with bits and pieces of animation from the first season. Yes, the original series producers used two different anime with cuts, edits and complete plot rewrites to create what we now know as Voltron.
But that shouldn’t hinder your nostalgia, nor should it blot your experience of what you are about to see. Netflix is making good on there promise to create original anime and “Voltron: Legendary Defender” looks pretty cool. Checkout the trailer below.
Executive producers have claimed to be inspired by non-Japanese franchises “Star Wars” and “Game Of Thrones.” The series debuts June 10th with 13 episodes available the same day. Those of you who have been waiting for new Voltron material can marathon the episodes back to back.
