“Your Name” Grosses 100M+ At Japanese Box Office

“Your Name,” or “Kimi No Na Wa” was released in late August but that isn’t slowing down its dominance. The numbers are in and Makoto Shinkai, a young and brilliant Japanese director have broken box office records with his latest debut. The movie is based on a novel with the same name and written by Shinkai himself.

Here’s a quick breakdown of “Your Name’s” Achievements:

  1. Number One Film In Japan For Five (5) Consecutive Weeks
  2. 2016’s Highest Grossing Film To Date
  3. First Hayao Miyazaki Film To Cross The $100 Million Dollar Mark

The film focuses on the gender-swapping theme. A theme familiar and common in Japan. Previous works by this director are “5 Centimeter’s Per Second” & “The Garden Of Words”, the first animated film  was licensed and released in the states by Crunchyroll on DVD and Bluray in 2014.

Hayao Miyazakai may have retired in 2013 but it looks like the Japanese and Otaku have another young-brilliant director to replace him. The anime movie will released in 85 countries.
