Makoto Shinkai is back in the director and producers chair with the beautiful, full-length theatrical film “Weather With You.” His last film “Your Name” was a huge success in both Japan and the States. “Your Name” was stunning visually with a quirky plot, two teenagers of the opposite sex on a quest to meet one another after swapping bodies. Makoto Shinkai’s “Weather With You” follows a different yet quirky story.

Here’s GKIDS official plot summary:

The summer of his high school freshman year, Hodaka runs away from his remote island home to Tokyo, and quickly finds himself pushed to his financial and personal limits. Then one day, Hodaka meets Hina on a busy street corner. This bright and strong-willed girl possesses a strange and wonderful ability: the power to stop the rain and clear the sky…

Weathering With You will be in theaters July 19, 2019. GKIDS, the North American distributor announced the license acquisition and plans to release the movie in select theaters sometime in 2020.
