Anime is becoming big business and Japan’s “Cool Japan Fund” wants in on the action. In an effort to promote Japanese pop culture and grow the markets outside of Japan, the “Cool Japan Fund” will invest $30 Million USD into Sentai Holdings LLC. The parent company to Sentai Filmworks, HiDive, AnimeNewsNetwork and Anime Network John Ledford, CEO of Sentai Filmworks had this to say,
We are extremely proud of the work we’ve done at Sentai to bring great anime storytelling, experiences, characters, and collectibles to fans around the world for more than a decade. The investment by Cool Japan Fund allows us to further our potential by expanding and deepening our long-running support of the Japanese anime industry.
The Cool Japan Fund was founded in 2013 to capitalize on Japan’s unique pop culture abroad. The fund has supported everything from food to clothing retailers opening up shop in other Asian countries. The fund is also responsible for investing in Tokyo Otaku Mode Inc., the parent company to Otaku Mode. This is good news for Otaku around the world. Sentai Filmworks licenses their shows to multiple studios in different countries for publishing. The more money they have the more they can invest in licenses, localization and translations.
